about me
Hi there! My name is Max Abel and I’m a music producer and filmcomposer from Rotterdam, NL.
At the age of 14, my parents gifted me an eight-track harddisk recorder, which kickstarted my music production journey. I used it to record covers of my favourite post-punk revival bands by tracking all the instruments myself in my bedroom, while most of my friends were skateboarding and chasing girls. Speaking of setting priorities!
Nowadays, I make music for film and podcast and I write, produce and mix for all kinds of artists. Oh, and I play live too!
In music production, my goal is to find a form in which the essence of a song is maintained, while adding / changing just enough to let it truly shine.
In music for film or podcast, I always try to be submissive to the picture. This means the music could be subtle, yet I’m not afraid to make it upfront and powerful if need be.
Fascinated by the emotional qualities of timbre and texture in sound, I’m always experimenting to find sounds that speak to me. I look for ways to surprise myself, in order to keep the process playful and fun. I’m particularly interested in the twilight zone between acoustic and electronic sounds, to the point where it’s hard to tell what’s what.
If this made you curious in how I could contribute to your project, feel free to contact me!
